Phakic Intraocular Lens
This is the method that an artificial lens is placed within the eye without removing the natural lens of the eye with the purpose of correcting refractive errors. This is generally used for the treatment of refractive errors of very high dioptries. Myopia between 7 and 25 dioptries and hypermetropia from 5 to 13 dioptries can be treated with this method. A clear vision without glasses or contact lenses in cases with high dioptries of myopia or hypermetropia that eye structure is not suitable for laser treatment (e.g. thin corneas) can be possible with phakic intraocular lenses |

Phakic intraocular lens (İOL) operation can be performed on cases over 18 years of age without glaucoma (high intraocular pressure) or cataract. Final decision for whether or not this procedure is suitable for the structure of your eye will be made after detailed eye examination and according to the level of the refractive error in your eye, and the size of your pupil in the dark, as well as according to the results of the examination of your corneal tissue with special methods.

Phakic IOL operations takes about 20 minutes for each eye, and patient feels nothing since s/he is under anesthesia. Both eyes are operated with a minimum period of 7 days between each operation, and the operated eye is bandaged for only 1 day. Bandages are opened the next day, and the patient has a clear vision to go back to normal daily life without glasses or contact lenses. Period for the normalizing of vision is about 4 to 6 weeks. Lens implanted within the eye is transparent, and it is made from a material that will stay in place for a lifetime without causing any problems. |
